Congratulations to Elizabeth Kim re Promotion

Appointment of Elizabeth Kim as the Senior Assistant Attorney General for the Charitable Trusts Section.  Her appointment is effective September 7, 2023. 

Since 2013, Elizabeth Kim has been a Supervising Deputy Attorney General in the Charitable Trusts Section.  As both a deputy and supervisor in the section, she investigates and prosecutes charities and their officers and directors, trustees, and fundraising professionals for fraud, diversion of assets, self-dealing, misrepresentations in solicitations, false reporting, and gross mismanagement.  Elizabeth is on the board of the National Association of State Charity Officials and serves on its many committees.  Elizabeth is actively involved in public outreach and education and has given presentations on the Attorney General’s role in regulating charities and fundraisers at various conferences.  Elizabeth has trial experience in state and federal courts, and has presented oral arguments in the state appellate courts and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and has many published opinions.  Elizabeth also has legislative and regulatory experience and has been and continues to be involved in drafting new statues and regulations that affect the nonprofit sector.  Before joining the Charitable Trusts Section, she was a DAG in the Correctional Law Section and the Correctional Writs and Appeals Section.

Before coming to the Department of Justice in 2001, Elizabeth worked at private law firms handling civil litigation.  Elizabeth received her J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1993, and her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine in 1989.

Steven Kim, former KPA member, passed away

Steven Kim, former King County Prosecuting Attorney (Seattle, WA) passed away this morning.  Steven was part of the first group of KPA members outside of Los Angeles and attended the KPA’s 1st US-Korea Criminal Law Conference in Los Angeles, CA.  Thereafter, he participated in the visiting scholar program with the Korean Prosecutors’ Office in Republic of Korea.  He left King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for private practice.  Steven leaves behind two beautiful children.  We send our condolence and prayer to his family.
